Sometimes our lives look and feel like a raging storm: dark, moody, filled with lightning and rain. It is very easy to give up hope and settle into depression. I believe this is why God gave us the rainbow as a reminder of His promise to never again destroy the world with water.
God said, “This is the sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations; I have set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall serve as a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth. It shall come about, when I make a cloud appear over the earth, that the rainbow will be seen in the cloud,” Genesis 9:12-14
In the cloud is where the rainbow appears. I love that this promise can only be seen at the time of struggle, in the storm. Similarly, in our lives, I believe that God’s many promises of hope shine forth in the very midst of the darkness and trial. The only question: are you looking for them? Are you holding fast to them? Will you hold fast to hope?
